Ski & Snowboard Instructor

Whether this is a first-time job, a part-time job, or a way to spend your retirement, teaching is one of the best ways to enjoy the mountains and develop your skiing or snowboarding abilities. Consider becoming an instructor or teaching assistant with Alpine West Ski & Snowboard School!

Sharing your knowledge and experiences with your students—and sharing in their excitement as they master new skills—is a deeply challenging and rewarding experience. No teaching experience is required — we’ll give you the training, mentorship, and tools you need to grow into a confident coach.

Open Positions

Instructors (Ages 16+)

We are looking for staff who are friendly, mature, good communicators, interested in self-improvement, helpful, have a passion for snow sports, and work well with others.

• Skill Level: Intermediate through expert-level skiers or snowboarders.

• Commitment: Must commit to the six-week program and be available for a minimum of 5 hours a weekend (includes a lunch break).

Junior Instructor (Ages 13-15)

Formerly known as the Cadet. This role is perfect for youth who want to learn indispensable life skills and begin to see how and why a skilled instructor knows what to teach. You will train directly with instructors and become a mentor to our younger students.

• Skill Level: Must be parallel skiers who ski comfortably and confidently everywhere in all conditions.

• Program Focus: Includes online training, hands-on on-snow technique sessions (turning, stopping, navigating terrain), and significant time shadowing/assisting experienced instructors.

Training Requirements

We walk you through exactly what it takes to become a confident instructor:

• Online PSIA-AASI Training: Completion is required to begin. Access details and resources are on the application. (Courses are available free for non-members).

• Pre-Season Training Sessions: Strongly encouraged to help you prepare for the season.

• On-Snow Training: Participate in hands-on sessions on the slopes to learn lesson planning and how to manage different student levels.
